Omer Study Gearing Up to Start After Pesach

Sign up to be alerted when new Omer teachings are posted here on the web site.

Beginning on the eve of the second day of Pesach, we are instructed by our tradition to count the days of the “Omer” until the fiftieth day, which is when the first wheat crop would be harvested.

That is also the Jewish holiday of Shavuot when, according to our tradition, the Jewish People received the Torah at Mt. Sinai. The counting of the Omer is a bridge between Pesach and Shavuot – between a moment of liberation and a moment of self-definition and direction at the beginning of our evolution as a religious civilization.

Last year more than 500 participants and commentators participated in the JRF Online Omer Study Initiative. The year before that 350.

This year our focus will be on Sustainability (balancing environmental, social, economic and spiritual life in our congregations and larger communities). See the text packet atached to this post.

Rabbis, Hazzanim (cantors), Educators and members of JRF congregations will comment on classic Jewish texts in the light of the sustainability work being done in their congregations. We are excited about the upcoming teaching during the Omer period between Passover and Shavuot.

Jews count the days of

Jews count the days of wandering in the desert from Pesach to Shavuot, and hockey fans gear themselves up to hopefully run from the first round to the finals. Though The Counting of the Omer is much more solemn, playoff hockey tradition is often as meaningful and serious for many. Fans don beards, favorite jerseys, and lucky undergarments for the same reason Jews grow beards, avoid haircuts, and postpone weddings: out of respect and tradition. fulfillment center

Try using one of those

Try using one of those Pesach cleaning schedules that are everywhere in books and on the internet nowadays. Some of them may go a bit overboard, but you can tailor them to your needs. Keeping a good schedule can do wonders for your time-management.
